What We Believe

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and, on the profession of our faith having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of the Church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and private devotion; to educate our children in Christian belief; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to practice temperance in all things, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Saviour.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech, to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and, mindful of the rules of the Saviour, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that, when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other Baptist church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

Articles of Faith

  1. We believe in the Living God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  2. We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

  3. We believe the Scriptures to be the divinely inspired Word of God, and a sufficient guide in the matter of faith and practice. We acknowledge Jesus Christ as our final authority and Head of the Church.

  4. We confess ourselves to be sinners and unable to save ourselves.

  5. We believe that Jesus Christ is truly man and truly God, that He humbled himself and became as we are that He might offer our salvation, that only in His righteousness can we claim any hope for admission into the presence of God.

  6. We believe that man’s part in the saving act is to “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ” as an act of faith.

  7. We believe that through Jesus Christ we are given new life, both now and in the life everlasting; and, we shall see the completed purpose of God through the power of the resurrection; and, our sins forgiven, we shall be counted among the blessed rather than among those reaping the punishment of the wicked.

  8. We believe that Jesus Christ left us two ordinances by which to remember Him

    1. Baptism, by immersion, to signify the death of the believer to sin and rising anew in the life of Christ

    2. The Lord’s Supper as a reminder of His broken body and shed blood.

  9. We believe that Christ founded the Church, that we are commissioned by Him to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you,” and that He is with us now through the power of the Holy Spirit.
