by Linda Ball & Marjorie Monahan, Co-Leaders of TWIG
The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from January to June, and then from September to December, at 1:30pm in the Library/Lounge. Light refreshments are served. Average attendance during the year was twelve (12) with some meetings having attendance reaching as high as 23, and others as low as 7. The day we had 23 in attendance (men & women) was the day we celebrated Canada 150. TWIG membership is not confined to men and women from ABC, but also includes some women from the Community as well.
Meetings during the year included such things as Arts & Crafts, hearing speakers from various mission organizations, and a visit from the Storyteller, when we had the fun of helping her create our own story! We saw pictures of underwater activity by a scuba diver who also happens to be an excellent photographer, and our own Ardith Engel favoured us with several interesting messages, as did Linda & Jim Ball, and Stephanie Batt.
Mission activities during the year included some of our members klnitting over 60 articles of clothing, which were then distributed to several organizations in Toronto, across Canada, and internationally. Christmas toys were purchased and sent to Magnetewan First Nations, funds were sent to the Scott Mission to provide Thanksgiving dinners to those in need, and to Benson Duong to assist in the ministry of Snack Attack and his time at Camp Kwasind in the summer.
In February Valentine cards were created and sent to many on the inactive list of our ABC membership, and then in December, cards were made and sent to various shut-ins connected with ABC & TWIG. In October, we had the opportunity to send funds to an organization in Guatemala to assist in providing tetanus inoculations to street children.
At the end of December, we were pleased to be involved in the Out of the Cold program run by ABC. We donated money to pay for desserts, and two of our members helped serve dinner to the nearly 50 men and women in attendance.
